Twirl, swirl, color, and craft! Express yourself to the beat of the drum. During this one-hour session, participants will explore multiple ways to express and create, through sounds, colors, and movement. Jillian will begin each class with rhythm-based games that invite each person to contribute with hand percussion instruments and/or simple movements. Following the warm-up games, participants are next invited to draw and color while Jillian creates unique soundscapes with drums and hand percussion. Each session will end with a chance for everyone to share (in words, gestures, and/or visuals) their experience.

Explore how simple rhythms can foster your creativity. No previous experience (in music, dance, or art) is necessary.

FAQ:

Is it really all ages?

Yes, I'd like to make this an all ages thing. That said, you know your child(ren) best, and if it's not working for them, you can leave at any time. There are other rooms at Bee Well, if you need to take a moment away from the activity.

Can I bring the whole family?

Yes, please do! Intergenerational experiences are wonderful, and these activities are based on simple suggestions that each individual interprets and expresses.

Is this a series?

No, drop in as your schedule allows. This is a relatively new offering, so there will be slight differences between each week, i.e. it's OK to join any time, you won't miss out.

I can only stay for some of the time, is that allowed?

You will get the full benefit from participating for the entire hour, but you are free to come and go as you need to. I have made this format open-ended to accommodate a wide range of needs.

Is this a drum/ dance/ art class?

Not really. I won't be teaching specific techniques in any of these modalities, just offering a space to come and try out several different ways to express yourself. This class could be considered an "improvised expressive arts class". This format encourages active listening skills. The only requirement is respect for each other, expressing in a way that is safe for you and those around you.
